Loring family papers, 1813-1895.

The large bound volume contains approximately 150 letters to and from members of the Loring family dating from 1813-1895. Correspondents with more than 5 letters in this volume include Asa Gray, Charles Greely Loring, C. W. Loring, and Edward G. Loring. Twelve separately bound letters are from Charles Greely Loring to his wife, Anna Pierce Brace Loring. They were written from February to March of 1834, when Loring was in Washington, D.C. to argue a case before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Many members of the Loring family attended Harvard College and served Harvard University in a variety of offices, including overseers and fellows. Charles Greely Loring (1794-1867) earned his Harvard AB 1812 and Harvard L.L.D. 1850. He married Anna Pierce Brace in 1818 (she died 1836). He was a Harvard fellow from 1838-1857.
